Actually, a good guy with an AR-15 stopped an attack with a knife and most likely saved a life. On Monday, February 26, a resident of an apartment complex on Harbor Drive in Oswego, Illinois attacked a person with a knife.
The victim is lucky that his neighbor, Dave Thomas, leapt into action after he saw a lot of blood all over the hallway. He confronted the perp who immediately stopped the attack and surrendered. Somehow he managed to flee, probably in fear of his own life, but the police were able to quickly catch him.
If the victim had to rely on the police stopping the attack, he probably would have succumbed from his wounds. This is a good example of why people are so concerned with being able to defend their family and neighbors. The saying “When seconds count, the police are minutes away,” holds true.
Chicago’s morning news station WGN9 reported Dave explaining why he grabbed his AR-15 rather than other firearms he owned:
I ran back into the home, into my house and grabbed my AR-15. Grabbed the AR-15 over my handgun. It’s just a bigger gun. I think a little bit more than an intimidation factor definitely played a part in him actually stopping.
The AR-15 is my weapon of choice for home protection. It’s light, it’s maneuverable. If you train and know how to use it properly, it’s not dangerous. And this is just a perfect example of good guy with an AR-15 stopped a bad guy with a knife. And there were no lives taken, so all in all it was a good day.
Yes, it was a very good day, Dave surely saved a life and didn’t even need to fire his AR-15.
