If you missed this year’s GS2AC BBQ, you missed out big time! Saturday Aug 16th dawned cool and overcast but by mid-morning the sun was shining through the oak trees and a beautiful day came forth.

Attendees got to try their hand at archery, courtesy of the experts at Predator’s Archery in Gilroy. Activities also included air gun shooting and a 22 caliber rifle range run by Mike Schrader and his team of experts.

Many of our guests also took advantage of our sporting clays instructor who provided individualized training is the techniques that professionals use to score big. Davenriche European Martial arts provided demonstrations of classic sword fighting techniques and our good friends at the Gun Fighters of the Old West re-enacted famous gun battles from history. Most impressive of all were the live hawks and falcons brought by the California Hawking Club.

Lunch was, as always top notch. Tri tip, chicken, pork and sausages…. homemade coleslaw, potato salad, green salad, garlic bread, chili and our own special recipe baked beans based on a secret recipe known only to our master chef, Mike Varner. And as the day warmed up, our ice cream station found itself being wiped out.

Then came the bucket prize drawing. Winners took home great prizes such as a C Crane Solar powered AM / FM / SW radio… a GS2AC specialty wine set.. a Damascus Steel knife… a bore site kit… shooting rests and more.

But the real fun began with the start of the kids’ rifle raffle. After handing out a slew of free tickets to the kids a beautiful 22LR bolt action target rifle with scope was awarded to the granddaughter of one of our members. She was ecstatic!

Then came the main gun drawing. The first ticket selected was slowly read off. One by one people fell out of contention until finally, the last number was called. Our eventual winner however was so busy working at the BBQ he completely forgot to check his own tickets. And when his name was called, a very happy Steven M. from Santa Clara County took possession of a German manufactured ATI 522 look-alike to an MP 5.

Then came our final gun winner. As the final ticket number was read off an exceptionally happy Phillip T. stood up and claimed his prize… the coveted Zastava AK 47 with the California bullet button.

And for the first time ever… all of our winners were from Santa Clara County… and all of them were members or relatives of the GS2AC.

Congratulations Steve and Philip!
