Sunnyvale May Adopt Firearms and Ammunition Controls June 25th

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Tomorrow, the City of Sunnyvale, California will hold a discussion on adopting gun control laws.  The agenda item number two says “Discussion and Possible Action on a Ballot Measure concerning sensible gun measures. Contact: Mayor Anthony (Tony) Spitaleri”.

Note the words “Possible Actions” in the agenda title.  I would expect the mayor to push for the adoption of strict rules for firearms and ammunition by the City Council.

Meeting starts at 7 pm, so, show up at 6:30 to ensure a seat.

Mayor Tony Spitaleri has set up an anti-gun activist group called “Sunnyvale Citizens for Sensible Gun Measures.”  This group’s purpose is to pressure the Sunnyvale City Council to adopt increasingly Machiavellian and draconian restrictions on firearms and ammunition.

According to Mayor Spitaleri, he would like to see the following measures immediately adopted.

1. No person may keep a firearm within a residence owned or controlled by that person unless the firearm is stored in a locked container or disabled with a trigger lock or other safety device, unless the firearm is in the person’s immediate possession and control.

2. Lost or stolen firearms must be reported to the DPS within 48 hours of the time that the owner knows or reasonably should know that a firearm is lost or stolen.

3. Dealers must procure a permit to sell ammunition and must keep a record of ammunition sales that includes name, date, identity of purchaser, and the type, amount, and brand of ammunition purchased.

4. No person may own or possess ammunition magazines that have the capacity to hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

5. Firearms dealers must obtain a city-issued permit and cannot operate within 200 feet of a public school.

None of these measures have ever saved lives or reduced crime.  Just look at Chicago that has more deaths than the war zones in which our troops are currently engaged.  Despite this history, Mayor Spitaleri’s laws would instantly turn law-abiding firearms owners into criminals by not grandfathering in the so-called high-capacity magazines.

The City of Sunnyvale would collect information on ammunition purchases by its law-abiding citizens and enable the city to set limits on the quantity of ammunition an individual could possess.  This would also place additional burdens on the sellers of firearms and ammunition, which are already the most highly-regulated of all businesses.

Please show up at the Sunnyvale City Council Meeting and present your views in a civilized manner.  Do not let the anti-gun activists provoke you into reacting to their heckling.

Voice your opposition to these proposed laws and protect your Second Amendment Rights.

Meeting starts at 7 pm, so, show up at 6:30 to ensure a seat.

  1. K. Campbell says:

Sadly there is NOTHING sensible about this proposal. Yet another attempt by the Leftist in this country to further subjuate the population to their will and void the Constitution and our God Given RIGHTS.
