Last night, October 29, José Canseco shot off his middle finger while cleaning his firearm. Everyone seems to be reporting that this was an accidental shooting.
José’s girlfriend and fiancé Leila Knight went to José’s twitter account and posted:
She said “I heard the gun go off and saw his middle finger hanging by a string… It will either have to be amputated or have full reconstruction surgery.”
Four hours later Leila tweeted Jose was at home and “safe and sound” and she was glad to have been there to take care of him.
José was not the victim of an accident. The first rule to follow when cleaning a firearm is to make sure that the firearm is unloaded. Even if the magazine is removed there could still be a cartridge in the chamber. You should visually inspect and physically check for cartridge in the chamber and also make sure the barrel is free from blockage or dirt.
I will be glad to offer firearm safety training to José if he is in the San Jose area in the future.
The Huffington Post, being true to their anti-gun stance while covering the news, use this opportunity to post a 15-picture slideshow titled Shootings In America. The slideshow starts out by highlighting the more recent school shootings.
The anti-gunners always make good use of a tragedy to push for more gun control and gun bans.
